Psalm 91 Day 8

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”   Martin Luther King Jr.
As we mentioned in our last post – in just the first two verses we find four names of God, or more importantly four characteristics of God, that should inspire faith and courage in our hearts.
Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the (Elyon) Most High will rest in the shadow of the (Shaddai) Almighty.
2 I will say of the (Yahweh) Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my (Elohim) God, in whom I trust.”
“Elyon” – there is no one higher than God! No one has more authority – HE has the last word! Not the doctor, employer, peers, etc. Have you given HIM the last word in your situation? Have you come to God and said “I know what others are saying, what I am thinking and feeling, but what do you have to say about it?
“Shaddai” – In the name Shaddai God reveals Himself as the one who can compel the very universe to do what is contrary to itself. If he is more than capable of compelling the universe to do what HE desires – HE is so much more than able to triumph over every obstacle or force that would stand in the way of what God has for you.  That is exciting.
“Yahweh” – “I am HE who is.” This is the holiest name for God. The name Yeshua which is a derivative and translates into the name Jesus means “Yahweh saves!” When God wanted to reveal Himself to us he did so in the name Jesus saves! Not Yahweh judges, Yahweh is angry, Yahweh punishes, but no matter where you are or what you have done there is way out for you in Jesus.
Elohim – “God our creator.” Remember the God who created the universe surely is able to work in creative ways in our lives and situations. We cannot put God in a box. Let our creative God do new, creative, unexpected things in your life.
Knowing the names of God and what they mean and provide for us can have a significant impact on our experiences as a Christian. The following is a list of names God uses to introduce himself and his heart to us.
Take time today to speak the names and power of God into the various circumstances in your life and allow HIM to be GOD in the circumstances of your life.

El-Elyon – The Lord Most High
El-Olam – The Everlasting God
