Psalm 91 Day 11
Psalm 91:7 “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.”
This verse comes at the end of a list of things we are told not to fear. The reference to “a thousand” and “ten thousand” falling on either side of us reminds us that, while we are told not to fear, the impact of these terrible things is very real and can be seen all around us.
In other words, we cannot let what we see and hear in the world around us impact our peace and trust in God. Even though the world seems to be in extreme turmoil to the point where even those closest to you are affected – we must continue to trust in God.
The original word for thousands actually translates elsewhere in the scripture as ‘myriad’ or ‘large numbers.’ So, no matter how many fall around you, or even if they are close enough to be within your reach, you will have nothing to fear.
It is the same encouragement we find in
Psalm 3:5&6 “I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.
Not only do we have nothing to fear and we will not be harmed – but these things will not even affect our sleep!
It shall not come near you – You will be safe. You may feel assured of HIS divine protection and peace.
Are you anxious? Having trouble sleeping? What are you worried about?
That is not what God wants you to be experiencing.
Isaiah 26:3(NLT) “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”
If that is not what you are experiencing – then what are you watching or listening to? If your eyes and ears are on the chaos around you then you can expect to be anxious and sleepless.
Try turning off the TV, news, politics, phone, and internet. Try listening to worship music, reading scripture, counting your blessings, or meditating on HIS word. Then see how anxious you are, or how you sleep.
Try it – but make sure you set your alarm good and loud before you do – you may be surprised.
God Bless- and talk again tomorrow- pjs
